Feast of Fun success in Plymouth

Over the summer Transforming Plymouth Together was involved with more than 35 events, run by 16 churches across Plymouth including Church of England, Baptist, Methodist, URC and Salvation Army churches.

Most were lunch clubs but St Pancras Church trialled a breakfast club which was extremely popular. Churches were able to run the events how they wanted so they were all different – many had bouncy castles, crafts and games, some had biscuit decorating, bible themed challenges, sumo wrestling suits, sing along sessions and more! We had the chance to speak to parents and children who said that the events were so much fun and practically a God-send over the holidays where finding affordable, fun activities to do with young children can be a challenge.

For 2019 the Hope4Summer events were renamed ‘Feast of Fun’ as a way of incorporating all school holidays, focus on the community and social aspect of the events not just the provision of food. All of the events were free to attend and open to everyone, not just those who receive free school meals. See the list of scheduled events here.

Transforming Plymouth Together supported churches across the city, from a range of different denominations and sizes to host even more events and provide food and fun to more children and families in need.

Receiving funding from National Lottery Community Fund, North Yard Trust, Virginia House Trust, Bellefonte Trust and TPT itself, the Feast of Fun programme was a great success and enjoyed by all who attended.

Working on the feedback and data gathered after the summer, Transforming Plymouth Together have written a report to look in further detail at the impact and feedback of the Feast of Fun project, which can be found here.

They have also created a video from the footage and interviews taken over the summer:

There were many who had never been into their local churches before and felt extremely welcomed by these events and the teams running them. There has already been another event hosted by one of the churches, as they were inspired by the Feast of Fun events and a number of the families who attended their Feast of Fun attended this new event.
